Spelling Test: Friday, February 3rd Wax Museum Facts due: Tuesday, February 21st Valentines Party: Tuesday, February 14th @3:00pm Parent Teacher Conferences: Wednesday and Thursday, February 15th and 16th 3rd Quarter Book Project (Wax Museum): This is the Third book report for the students. Their person will come alive on the day of the Wax Museum as they dress up and act like their person! Please do not think that you will need to purchase an outfit for your student to dress up as their person. Instead, we encourage them to find props and costumes from their home. Students are encouraged to look for a biography at school, yet often students choose to a person that is not at our library and will need to go to the public library. Please sign and return the form once your student has a book. We encourage the students to read the book at home and school. Please use these minutes read at home towards the reading program/minutes! Book chosen: January 17th Facts due: February 21st Wax Museum: February 24th Math: This week we will continue in Topic 12. This week kiddos are learning about changing fractions from mixed numbers to improper fractions, improper fractions to mixed numbers, and adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Encourage your child to play any of the games on this site to help them. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/menus/fractions.htm Spelling: Spelling this week is a list week. Students will need to practice the spelling of last week’s words. The vocabulary words this week are Engineer and Engineering. Writing/Grammar: Students will continue learning about the story elements of a Narrative. This week they will focus on writing and editing their stories this week. Last week we discussed power sentences and good conclusions. As they edit each other’s stories this week, they are encouraged to help their friends add in strong power sentences. Students will also begin learning about Figurative Language. This week they will explore Similes, Metaphors, and Alliterations! They are being encouraged to add these into their writing. Science: This week students will continue their Physical Science Unit. For this science unit we will be doing many investigations and experiments. We will also be adding in Engineering Projects throughout this unit. For this, students are going to be needing recyclables. If you have any at home, we could have that would be much appreciated! This week we will be doing our first engineering project on Wednesday. Be sure to ask your child about it after school that day. MakerSpace: Our MakerSpace is open for business!
