This is our last Topic over Fractions and Decimals. Our test is on Tuesday, February 25th. Our essential question for Unit 7 is: How do communities evolve? Student Objectives: Read and analyze personal journals, diaries, and informational text about the past. Share ideas with peers Build vocabulary knowledge Write informational, narrative, and opinion texts. Writing: This week we will continue writing in our Oregon Trail Journals. Each day we will make it to a new landmark and will journal about our journey West! Ask your child about what happened on their journey each day. Spelling: Students received their spelling lists last Friday. We will test over those words this Friday, February 28th. Vocabulary Words: Pioneer: a person who is among the first to explore or settle a new country or area Prairie: a large open area of grassland, especially in the Mississippi River valley. Homestead: a house, especially a farmhouse, and outbuildings Social Studies: This week we are continuing in our Oregon Trail Unit. We have started reading a new novel, Bound for Oregon. The kids are loving it! Ask your child where the Todd family is at on their journey and what they are going through. Science: We are currently in our Physical Science Unit. Students will be learning about Energy! We will be doing a lot of fun investigations with this unit. Wax Museum: Our Wax Museum will be on Friday, February 28th. It will be from 1:30-3:00 in the 4th and 5th grade pods. Other family members are welcome to come as well! We ask that you please bring in loose change and drop it students collection cups to make them "come alive" and give their presentations. We started making the Wax Museum a change drive last year and it was very successful. We then donate the change to the Ronald Mcdonald House as part of our Community Service Day. We will be rehearsing in class this week! Community Service Day: This years Community Service Day will be on Friday, March 6th. This is PRE's second time doing this. Each grade level chooses a different charity. 4th grade has chosen the Ronald McDonald House as our charity to give back to. We will be putting together some different goody bags for kids and their families. We will also be donating and decorating hand sanitizer bottles with positive messages!
