This week kiddos are focusing on adding and subtracting mixed numbers, and composing and decomposing fractions. Encourage your child to play any of the games on this site to help them review. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/menus/fractions.htm On Thursday we will review Topic 12 in class and we will have our test on Friday! ELA: This week we will begin Unit 6 in Benchmark Advance. This unit is called, Confronting Challenges. The essential question is "How do we overcome obstacles?" we will refer back to this question as we read different stories. By the end of the unit, students will be able to read and analyze themes in literary texts based on myth and folklore. Students are also still drafting and editing their personal narrative stories. This week we will focus on adding in sensory details and character traits. Be sure to ask them what they are writing about! The stories are really great so far! Spelling: This week, students will receive their first 5 words for Unit 6. These words are: 1. clockwise 2. wildly 3. peacefully 4. sideways 5. barely: not enough, simple Social Studies: This week students will begin presenting their Immigration project. They worked with a partner to research an Immigrant group that settled in Kansas. They will share their information with the class and learn about other Immigrant groups as well! In honor of Kansas Day, this week we will be participating in The Amazing Race, Kansas Edition! This is always a fun activity! Students will get to do this activity on Wednesday.
