Students will work with a partner to plan a Thanksgiving Meal using the data they will collect from the grocery store. Students will finish and present these to the class the week of Thanksgiving. Reading: We will continue in Unit 3: Observing Nature. We will be reading Informational Text. Students will read and analyze literary and informational texts about the natural world, share ideas with peers, build vocabulary knowledge, and practice research skills. Our essential question for this unit is: How do we respond to nature? Spelling: We have new spelling lists for this week. Extra copies of the lists can be found on the documents page of this blog. Vocabulary words for the week: Observation: the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information Hypothesis: an educated guess, or a guess you make based on information you already know. After you make a hypothesis, then comes the fun part: doing the science experiment to see what happens! This lets you discover if your hypothesis was correct or incorrect. When you answer questions about what you think will happen in a science experiment, you are making a hypothesis. Photosynthesis: the process though which plants use water, light and carbon dioxide to create their food and release oxygen into the air Writing: For most of 2nd quarter, we will be focusing on Informational writing. Students will learn about Informational text features and how that helps us to read Informational text and organize it in our writing. This week, students will be choosing their animal to write about. They will first research this animal. They will be researching about their Physical and Behavioral Adaptations. Science: This week we will continue in our Life Science unit from our National Geographic textbooks. We will be learning about the Structure and Function of animals. On Friday we will be having some guest speakers come in to describe animal adaptations. They will be bringing in some birds for us to observe and learn more about!
