The kiddos are learning about changing fractions from mixed numbers to improper fractions, improper fractions to mixed numbers, and adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Encourage your child to play any of the games on this site to help them. http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/menus/fractions.htm ELA: This week we will take our Unit 6 test and being Unit 7 in Benchmark Advance. Our essential question for Unit 7 is: How do communities evolve? Student Objectives: Read and analyze personal journals, diaries, and informational text about the past. Share ideas with peers Build vocabulary knowledge Write informational, narrative, and opinion texts. Writing: Students will begin learning about and writing a personal narrative. We will start the planning process this week. Students will learns ways to begin their Narrative to "Hook" their reader. They will use transition words and phrases, Dialogue, and learn ways to conclude their writing. Spelling: This Wednesday, January 29th, we will take our spelling test. This is over the words we have had for two weeks now! The snow days have thrown us off a bit for spelling! On Wednesday, students will also receive their next list. We won't test over that list until Friday, February 7th. Extra spelling lists can be found on the Documents page of the blog. Social Studies: Students will begin researching an immigrant group this week. These are groups that have immigrated to Kansas and helped to make our state the great state it is today! They will be working with 1-2 other students. The groups are: Vietnamese, African Americans, Swedish, British, Croatian, Potawatomi, Mexican, Czech, French, Lebanese, Italians, and Germans. They will learn where their group came from, where they settled in Kansas, when they immigrated, and why they immigrated. Students will create a presentation to share with the rest of their classmates. Wednesday is Kansas Day! We will celebrate by doing an Amazing Race (Kansas Edition) game! Super Bowl Spirit Week: Mahomes Monday: Wear a headband or hair in a mohawk Tyreek Tuesday: Wear anything cheetah Winning Wednesday: Represent Kansas City and wear any KC gear Tailgate Thursday: Wear a hat and/or sunglasses Red Friday: Wear your Chiefs gear! If you don't have any of these items, you are encourage to wear Red or Chiefs gear everyday this week! Wax Museum: Our Wax Museum will be on Friday, February 28th. Please book this date if you are able to attend. It will be from 1:30-3:00 in the 4th and 5th grade pods. More information regarding this will come home on Monday, February 3rd, we just wanted to get the date to you all! Community Service Day: This years Community Service Day will be on Friday, March 6th. This is PRE's second time doing this. Each grade level chooses a different charity. 4th grade has chosen the Ronald McDonald House as our charity to give back to. More information regarding this day will be coming home soon.
