March 29 Field trip to the Pony Express Museum and Spelling Test April 2 Topic 14 Math Test April 8 and 9 ELA State Assessments April 16 and 17 Math State Assessment Math: This week we will continue in Topic 14. We will focus on the Metric units and converting metric units. We will be using a saying that helps us do this: King Henry Died by Drinking Chocolate Milk. Ask your kiddo to explain this to you! ELA: This week we will finish Unit 7 in Benchmark Advance. Our essential question for this unit is: How do communities evolve? Student Objectives: Read and analyze personal journals, diaries, and informational text about the past. Share ideas with peers Build vocabulary knowledge Write informational, narrative, and opinion texts. We will also finish our class novel, Bound for Oregon. Students will begin working on an Oregon Trail Project to end our unit. Writing: We will continue writing in our Oregon Trail journals this week. We will finish on Friday. Ask your kiddos if they made it to Oregon or not! Spelling: Students met with their spelling groups last Friday and received their lists for this week. Our test will be in the afternoon after our field trip. Vocabulary: 1. Digitize: convert (pictures or sound) into a digital form that can be processed by a computer 2. Renewable Energy: sources of energy that will never run out. Example: solar energy and wind energy 3. Wavelength: the distance from one crest (highest or lowest point of a wave) to the next crest, or one trough to the next trough Social Studies: We will continue to integrate social studies into reading and writing with our Bound for Oregon novel and Oregon Trail journals. This is a long unit with a lot of fun experiments! Students will learn about Energy Waves: Waves and Information. This week we will experiment Waves. Book Club: Quarter 4 Book Club book is A Long Walk to Water. We will meet to discuss this book on Monday, May 13th.
