Upcoming Dates:
2nd Quarter Book Project: Due Dates: Books and Project Selected and Approved by Teacher – Monday, October 31st Final Project due - Monday, December 5th Math: This week students will start learning about division concepts in Topics 9 and 10. They will learn a variety of strategies to help them solve long division. Please encourage them to show you the strategy used in class! Each student will find the best strategy for them to use in order to solve the problems. It can get frustrating as they are learning each strategy, yet we will constantly tell them to try it out and then use the strategy that works for them! Please continue to help them master the basic division facts by practicing with flash cards, ipad games, computer games, or other fun ways to reinforce the skill. Spelling: This week is an application week. Students will need to learn the definitions of the words and be able to apply them correctly in sentences. They will be making flashcards at school that they can practice. Reading: Students will be finishing up their novels in their small reading groups and starting a final project in class. Writing/Grammar: Students will be learning about and practicing identifying progressive verb tenses. Science: This week we will finish up our Life Science unit. Students have been learning about plant and animal adaptations. We will review on Thursday and have their test over this unit on Friday. Social Studies: This week we will start our 4th region. Our test will be on Friday, December 9th. Here are some great sites to practice: http://www.addictinggames.com/puzzle-games/50states.jsp http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm - This lets you play by regions!! http://coolmath-games.com/0-geography-state-the-state/ Shaffer: Midwest Kremer: Northeast Harrison: Southeast Eaton: Southwest Boxes of Hope Students are working in class on their Boxes of Hope activity. They are focusing on giving from the heart by writing compliments, a letter of encouragement, a poem or short story, plus a homemade gift. The help they'll need from home is decorating a box and then making a gift. We love seeing the excitement students find in giving from their heart. They are not to spend money on the homemade gift, but instead use items from home that they can use to make it. The box and gift will be due on Monday, December 12th. Please let your teacher know if your student will be gone any days in December. It helps immensely in planning. Thank you!
