Tuesday, August 31st: Fast Bridge Math Assessment Tuesday, August 31st: Picture Day Monday, September 6th: No School Wednesday, September 22nd: 2 hour delayed start Wednesday, September 29th and Thursday, September 30th: Parent Teacher Conferences Thursday, September 30th and Friday, October 1st: No School Math: This week we start our next chapter! Students will also be taking their Fast Bridge Math Assessment on Tuesday. We will be on Chapter 2- Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers. Students will learn Addition properties and Subtraction rules. They will be able to add and subtract mentally and estimate sums and differences by the end of this week. If their math homework doesn't take them very long to complete in the evenings, I highly recommend that they are practicing their math facts! Flash cards or XtraMath are great resources for this! Reading: This week we will finish our class novel, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Students will begin a project on Wednesday. They will be making a digital poster about the book and the story elements. Keep encouraging your child to read for 20 minutes each day! THis can be broken up into chunks! 5 minutes in the car on the way to soccer practice, 5 minutes on the way home, and 10 minutes before bed! :) Writing/Grammar: We will continue reviewing and practicing capitalization and punctuation in our writing this week! We will also discuss what makes a complete sentence. Students will learn about subjects and predicates, fragment sentences, and run-on sentences. Once we have this mastered, we will move on to paragraph writing! Phonics: We will finish up our review of the 7 syllable types this week. Students will have learned about open and closed syllables, vowel teams, magic e, r controlled vowels, dipthongs, and consonant+le. Social Studies: This week, we will finish our Geography Unit. Students are creating an Autobiography Island Map. This map is about themselves using the outline of the first letter of their name! They will include all 5 parts of a map. Challenge: Have your child give you directions somewhere using landmarks and cardinal directions! Science: This week we will begin our Physical Science unit in our National Geographic curriculum. We will be discussing Force and Motion! Second Step: This week we will be on Lesson 3, Be Assertive! We will be discussing passive, aggressive, and assertive responses.
