January 26th: Skate Party @ 6 February 9th-16th: Book Fair February 14th: Valentine’s Day Party @ 3 February 15th: Half Day February 16th-20th: No School February 24th: Wax Museum 1:30-3:00 Valentine’s Day Party: Here is the sign up genius to help donate items to our class party February 14th. Students will decorate white paper bags that day and pass out valentines before the party. I have attached a class list in case your child labels each valentine. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0844A5AA22A7F94-4thgrade2 Wax Museum: Students will be bringing home a an information sheet about our Wax Museum coming up at the end of February. Students will choose someone famous, historical or not to read about. The requirement is that they must have a book written about them or they wrote a book about themselves. They can use extra resources along with this book to research. Students will then write down 10 major facts about this person as if they were them (using I, me, we, etc.). On the day of Wax Museum they will bring a costume to change into and then present for students, teachers and parents to come around and listen to them. Due Monday: Slip of paper with person, your signature and book title they have or will get. Due February 13th: 10 facts on notecards so we have time to revise if needed. Also have time to practice. Wax Museum Date: February 24th 1:30-3:00. You will be welcome to come! Math: We are continuing finishing Chapter 8: Fractions. Wednesday we will have our test over simplifying fractions, finding equivalent fractions and mixed numbers/improper fractions. Thursday we will start Chapter 9: Diving Deeper into Fractions. Students will learn how to add and subtract fractions within this unit. Reading: This week we are finishing our unit on points of view within stories. Students have been working on understanding the point of view of different characters and how that adds to a story. Phonics: The students will be learning and focusing on the morpheme miss- this week. They will have their vocal and dictation quiz on Friday. Writing: This month the kids are learning about informational writing. They will be learning how to researching and have facts to support their writing. Their writing project is over a new species of animal they have created. Students will research about different adaptations that help an animal survive in specific habitats and then choose what would help their animal survive. It’s a mix of informative with creative writing! Social Studies: Students are continuing and finish our mini unit on immigration. We have been learning why people immigrate. There have been great discussions over how hard that decision can be for someone. This week they are diving deeper into a specific group of people who immigrated to Kansas. They are presenting at the end of the week about why these people chose to immigrate and what contributing they have made to Kansas. Quarter 3 Current Event week 3! Science: We are taking a break from Science this month and switching gears to Social Studies. Second-Step Lesson: Managing Anxiety
