Important Dates:
February 28th-March 4th: Read Across America Week March 1st: Chapter 10 Math Test March 3rd: Virtual Author Visit March 4th: Spelling Test March 8th: Kindergarten Round Up March 10th: Skate Night March 11th: Community Service Day March 14th-18th: Spring Break Math: This week we will review Chapter 10 and test on Tuesday! This will wrap up fractions and decimals! yay! On Wednesday, we will move on to Chapter 11: Customary Measurement. Students will learn the customary units of length, capacity, weight, and time. We will also practice plotting data in a line plot. We will have Measurement for the next three chapters! Reading: This week we will begin our next class novel, Bound for Oregon. This book is about a 9 year old girl, Mary Ellen and her family making their trip west on the Oregon Trail. We will discuss the story elements throughout the novel. Phonics: Our Prefix this week is Dis- and Dif-. Students will practice applying this prefix throughout the week and will have their spelling test on Friday. Second Step: These weeks lesson is lesson 20: Taking Responsibility for your Actions. Students will learn the steps for taking responsibility. They are: Admit what you did is wrong, Make a sincere apology, and Offer to make amends. We will all practice these steps with different scenarios. Grammar: Students will begin their Oregon Trail journals this week. This starts their journey west to Oregon! They have made up their families, their childrens names and ages, and their jobs. They have decided where they are leaving from and will head to Independence, MO to meet up with a wagon train this week! We are journaling in our tea dyed paper journals we made. Students get really creative and have fun with this! There will be hardships along the way. Social Studies: This week we will finish up with our If I Traveled West book. This book was laying the foundation for our Oregon Trail unit and giving students background knowledge. On Wednesday we will begin the Northeast region. This is our last of the 5 regions! We will make our flashcards here at school. The test over this region will be on Thursday, March 10th.
