Upcoming Dates:
This week students will continue learning about division concepts in Topics 9 and 10. They will learn a variety of strategies to help them solve long division. Please encourage them to show you the strategy used in class! Each student will find the best strategy for them to use in order to solve the problems. It can get frustrating as they are learning each strategy, yet we will constantly tell them to try it out and then use the strategy that works for them! Please continue to help them master the basic division facts by practicing with flash cards, ipad games, computer games, or other fun ways to reinforce the skill. Spelling: This week is a list week. Students will need to practice the spelling of the words from last week. Reading: Students will be finishing up their novels in their small reading groups and starting a final project in class. Writing/Grammar: Students will be learning about relative pronouns and adverbs. Social Studies: This week we will finish up our 4th region. Our test will be on Friday, December 9th. Here are some great sites to practice: http://www.addictinggames.com/puzzle-games/50states.jsp http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/web_games.htm - This lets you play by regions!! http://coolmath-games.com/0-geography-state-the-state/ Shaffer: Midwest Kremer: Northeast Harrison: Southeast Eaton: Southwest Boxes of Hope Students are working in class on their Boxes of Hope activity. They are focusing on giving from the heart by writing compliments, a letter of encouragement, a poem or short story, plus a homemade gift. The help they'll need from home is decorating a box and then making a gift. We love seeing the excitement students find in giving from their heart. They are not to spend money on the homemade gift, but instead use items from home that they can use to make it. The box and gift will be due on Monday, December 12th. Please let your teacher know if your student will be gone any days in December. It helps immensely in planning. Thank you! MakerSpace Prairie Ridge Elementary is happy to announce MakerSpace is coming to PRE in January, 2017! Our school’s 21st Century Technology Committee is working hard with PTO, Site Council, staff, and families to get this up and running ASAP. Not sure what MakerSpace is? Check out this link for information: http://www.aaeteachers.org/index.php/blog/1397-makerspaces-in-schools . We are in need of donations to provide students with as many hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) opportunities as possible. Please take time to look at the list and see if your family is able to help in any way. We will gladly accept new and gently-used items. Please look around your house to see if you have items that would be valuable to the program. If you have other items you think would be great in the MakerSpace system, please send them in. We created a Sign-Up Genius account for you to participate and donate. You may find the link at: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409084baeaf229-maker/ . We would like to have all donations in by December 14th so we can have everything organized and ready when the kids return to school in January. If you find something over break, feel free to still send it in when second semester begins. Thank you for your support!
