Important Dates:
January 31st: Wax Museum information goes home February 4th: Spelling Test February 7th: Have Wax Museum Book Chosen and permission slip turned in February 9th: Southeast Region Test Math: This week, we will continue in Chapter 9: Operations with Fractions. Students will start out by adding and subtracting fractions in this chapter. We will progress to adding and subtracting mixed numbers and multiplying fractions by whole numbers. Reading: This week we will begin Unit 6 in Benchmark Advance. In this unit we will focus on Confronting Challenges. Our guiding question is "How do we overcome obstacles?". We will pay close attention to the characters in our stories and how they overcome challenges. Phonics: Our prefix this week is re-. We will apply our knowledge of this on our spelling test on Friday! Grammar: This week students will continue to learn and practice figurative language. This week we will learn Idioms, Hyperbole, and Alliterations. Students will practice writing these types of figurative language for their color poems. Second Step: This week we will complete Lesson 18. This week's topic is about Making a Plan. This is one of their steps to Solving Problems. They will practice making plans to solve problems. Science: We are picking back up with regions this week! Today we start the Southeast region. Students will learn about the History, Climate, Land, Landmarks, Economy, and Natural Resources of the Southeast States. We will also be learning the states and capitals for this region. Students will test over this on Wednesday, February 9th. Be sure to be studying at home!
