Thursday, December 2nd: Fastbridge Reading assessment and Saebrs Friday, December 3rd: Spelling Test and Unit 3 reading test Tuesday, December 7th: Fastbridge Math assessment Friday, December 10th: Spelling Test (last one for the semester!) Thursday, December 16th: Holiday party @11:15 and a Half day! Friday, December 17th: No school! Winter Break! Math: We have started Unit 7: Patterns and Sequences! Students will learn Numeric and Non-Numeric patterns. They will learn the difference between a repeating pattern and a pattern with a rule. We will eventually move onto function tables as well! This chapter starts out slow but gets more difficult! This is our last unit in our Volume 1 math book. After winter break we will start Volume 2! It is crazy to think that we are almost halfway done with math for the year! Reading: This week we will begin Unit 3 in Benchmark Advance! Our essential question in this unit is "How do we respond to nature?". Our texts will all have something to do with nature. Students will also practice ordering adjectives, fixing fragments, and learning idioms in this unit. Phonics: Our suffix we will focus on this week is -able and -ible. Students will apply their knowledge of this suffix in their writing and on their spelling test. Grammar: We have started writing an opinion piece! Students are trying to convince Santa to hire them as one of his Elves. Students have to state their opinion and provide three reasons with evidence. They will also be designing a new toy to present to Santa! Second Step: This week we will complete Lesson 13. This lesson is about Managing Anxiety. Students will learn and practice strategies to calm down when they are feeling anxious. Science: This week are starting our Life Science unit. We will be discussing the structure and function of living things and how it helps them survive. We will focus on plants this week. Students will learn about the internal and external structures of a plant, dissect a flower, learn about photosynthesis, and start an experiment with celery! This is a fun science unit!
