Math: This week we will continue in Topic 1. Topic 1: Relating Multiplication and Division Students will be discussing multiplication properties and how multiplication and division relate. This week students will look more at division. These games are a great way to review. Properties of Multiplication - Math Basketball Test your knowledge on the Properties of Multiplication Multiplication Properties Videos Multiplication -Review Vocabulary - Study Jams Relate Multiplication and Division - Study Jams Please continue to remind your kiddo to work on xtra math or another multiplication game a couple nights a week to increase their multiplication fluency. Reading/Writing: We will be starting Unit 2 in Benchmark Advance this week! Our essential question is: How do we reveal ourselves to others? In this unit, students will read and compare characters in fables, fairy tales, and fantasies and analyze their actions and reactions. Along with this, students will also begin writing their own fairy tales! We are so excited for this writing unit! Spelling: This week each spelling group has a new set of words. They got these words after their test on Friday. You can find extra copies of the spelling lists on the Documents page of the Blog. Vocabulary this week: Region: an area or division, especially part of a country or the world having definable characteristics but not always fixed boundaries. Economy: the wealth and resources of a country or region, especially in terms of the production and consumption of goods and services. Culture: A group of people's way of life. Social Studies: This week we will start learning about the Midwest Region of the United States. We will get through all 5 regions by the end of the school year. Students are expected to have the states, location, and capitals memorized. They will make flash cards at school to bring home to study. This is a great time to talk with them about the Regions and the uniqueness of each state! While they are learning about each region, we will discuss the land, water, climate, natural resources, and culture of the Regions. They will make a scrapbook of their journey to each Region at school. The test over the states, location and capitals of the Midwest will be on Wednesday, September 26th. This book club is optional! If students would like to participate, please let your 4th grade teacher know. For Quarter 1, we will be reading Holes. The book needs to be finished by Wednesday, October 9th. On that day, we will meet during our lunch time, in the pod area, to have a Chew and Chat and discuss the book! Students will read this book independently. They can track their reading minutes on their reading logs! They can also use their Daily 5 time in class to read the book if they have their other Daily 5 work finished. Again, this is optional!
