Important Dates:
January 26th: Chapter 8 Math Test and Unit 4 Reading Test January 28th: Spelling Test and Kansas Day Activities! January 31st: Wax Museum information goes home Math: This week we will finish up Chapter 8: Fractions!! Students will practice converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will review the entire chapter on Tuesday and test on Wednesday! On Thursday, we will begin Chapter 9: Operations with Fractions. Students will start out by adding and subtracting fractions in this chapter. We will progress to adding and subtracting mixed numbers and multiplying fractions by whole numbers. Reading: This week we will finish Unit 4 in Benchmark Advance. In this unit we have focused on the Point of View. Our guiding question throughout the unit has been, What do we learn when we look at the world through the eyes of others? Students will test over this unit on Wednesday and make corrections on Thursday is needed. Phonics: We have finished up suffixes and are ready to move on to prefixes this week! Our first prefix is un-. We will apply our knowledge of this on our spelling test on Friday! Grammar: This week students will begin a new writing project. This project goes along with our Figurative Language unit. We will learn and practice all types of figurative language and then put our knowledge of it into a Color Poem. Students will choose a color to write a poem about using Figurative Language. These turn out really fun! Second Step: This week we will complete Lesson 17. This week's topic is about Solving Problems. This is part two of last week's lesson. Students will continue learning the rest of the steps to Solve Problems. We will practice using scenarios with a classmate! Science: Students are working on their Immigration Projects with their partners this week. They will take their research and put it into a project! Students will present their projects on Wednesday and Thursday. We will learn all about the different immigration groups that settled in Kansas and made it the great state that it is! We will also learn more about Kansas and celebrate it on Thursday and Friday in honor of Kansas Day!
