Hey 4th grade parents!!We are looking forward to our first full week together! We are excited to get into our normal routine and get our 4th grade curriculum started!
Quick Reminders:
Important Upcoming Dates:
Reading This week we will review the Daily 5 strategies implemented in 3rd grade. These strategies work on building literacy in the classroom. The Daily 5 strategies are Listen to Reading, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing and Word Work. These components of literacy are done throughout the small group reading times. In order to start small groups they need to understand the expectations of what they should be doing! We'll work on building this knowledge. We will also be reviewing and establishing routines before we begin our reading curriculum, Benchmark Advance! Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing Students will start reading a Whole Class Novel of Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. This book is so funny you'll hear your kids laughing out loud. A lot of the reading will be done at school, yet some kids might choose to bring it home to reread the passage. As we start reading you'll hear more details about the story elements we will be learning. Math This week students will be learning about the structure of math groups. They will practice working each day and learn how the stations will work during small groups. In addition, students will learn about Place Value: Topic 3. Here are some review games to help them with Place Value: Expanded Form Matching Half Court Rounding (Basketball) Place Value Puzzler Did your student forget their math book? Do you want to help them study for a test and you need to review the concepts? EnVision Math has their book online! To see the 4th grade book go to sso.rumba.pearsoncmg.com/sso/login?profile=snp&k12int=true&service=https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com:443/snpapp/login/login.jsp They were given their username and password in class. Most students have it recorded in their agenda. Please continue to help your kiddo on their basic math facts a couple times a week. This is the foundation of all the math they will do. By computing more quickly and correctly, students will find math concepts easier to obtain with that foundation. Please help your students practice the addition, subtraction, and multiplication basic facts. This can be done with flash cards, playing online games at www.xtramath.org Writing This week we are working on finishing up I am Poems. These poems have the students explore who they are, what they like to do, and express it in a poem format. In addition, students are making an A to Z book about themselves. This is all information that the students will use to have conversations with their peers in class as a method of getting to know each other. It will also help them get back into the swing of writing! Students are also focusing on writing correct sentences by analyzing complete sentences, fragment, and run-on sentences. We will be working on Paragraph writing as well. This will lead us into writing Friendly Letters! Social Studies: Students are learning about maps. They will learn how to read maps, the cardinal directions, latitude, longitude, and time zones.
