This week, students will finish Topic 4 with their test on Tuesday, September 11th. Our next math topic is Topic 1. We will start Topic 1 on Wednesday. Topic 1: Relating Multiplication and Division Students will be discussing multiplication properties and how multiplication and division relate. This week students will look more at multiplication. These games are a great way to review. Properties of Multiplication - Math Basketball Test your knowledge on the Properties of Multiplication Multiplication Properties Videos Multiplication -Review Vocabulary - Study Jams Relate Multiplication and Division - Study Jams Please continue to remind your kiddo to work on xtra math or another multiplication game a couple nights a week to increase their multiplication fluency. Reading: This week we will continue in Unit 1 of Benchmark Advance. In this unit we will be reading and learning about our Government. Our essential question is: How can government influence the way we live? Enduring Understand: Governments make decisions and provide services that profoundly affect our lives. In this unit, students will read and compare selections about different things governments do to understand how governments influence our lives. Writing: Students will finish their Friendly Letter writing unit this week by writing one final Friendly Letter to a Veteran. These letters will also be used for their music program in November! Social Studies: This week we will finish up our Civics and Government Unit. Students will be learning about the 3 branches of Government, the 3 levels of Government, Checks and Balances, and the Constitution. Spelling: You can find extra copies of spelling lists on the Documents page of the blog. Spelling words should also be written in your child's agenda for this week. Our first spelling test will be this Friday, September 14th. On Friday, students will also receive next weeks words. There are 5 different spelling groups, so there are 5 different sets of spelling words. Your child should know which group they are in. Everyone will have the same 3 vocabulary words. The vocabulary words for this week are: Government: The governing body of a nation, state, or community. Consequence: A result or effect of an action or condition. Citizenship: The position or status of being a citizen of a particular country. This book club is optional! If students would like to participate, please let your 4th grade teacher know. For Quarter 1, we will be reading Holes. The book needs to be finished by Wednesday, October 9th. On that day, we will meet during our lunch time, in the pod area, to have a Chew and Chat and discuss the book! Students will read this book independently. They can track their reading minutes on their reading logs! They can also use their Daily 5 time in class to read the book if they have their other Daily 5 work finished. Again, this is optional!
