November 7th: 4th grade program @ 9 am and 6:30 pm Math: We are continuing Topics 5 and 6 this week. These two topics will be combined to teach about multiplying double digit and single digit numbers. These units will focus on learning a variety of strategies to help students find the best way for them to multiply. At times, your student might get frustrated since they are learning a new strategy. We are encouraging them to try each strategy when it is taught. By the end of this unit there will be a variety of ways students will get to the same answer. It is always fun to see which one works for them! Here is a list of some of the strategies:
Reading: We will continue in Unit 3: Observing Nature. We will be reading Informational Text. Students will read and analyze literary and informational texts about the natural world, share ideas with peers, build vocabulary knowledge, and practice research skills. Our essential question for this unit is: How do we respond to nature? Spelling: This week each spelling group has a new set of words. They got these words after their test on Friday. You can find extra copies of the spelling lists on the Documents page of the Blog. Vocab: Adaptation: change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment. Structure: object or living thing and it’s construction from several parts. Function: an activity or purpose natural to a living thing or object Writing: For most of 2nd quarter, we will be focusing on Informational writing. Students will learn about Informational text features and how that helps us to read Informational text and organize it in our writing. Students will create an animal to write about. They will first research about different parts of their animal. They will be researching about their animals Physical and Behavioral Adaptations. Science: This week we will begin our Life Science unit from our National Geographic textbooks. We will be learning about the Structure and Function of plants and animals. We will be doing a lot of fun activities and experiments for this unit! This week we get to dissect a flower! Next week we will learn about photosynthesis and do an experiment with celery!
