Math: This week we will finish up with Topic 7 and 8. Students will review these topics on Monday and take their test on Tuesday. Starting Wednesday, we will begin working on our Thanksgiving Dinner math project! For this project, students will work with a partner to plan a Thanksgiving Meal using the data they collected from the grocery store. Students will finish and present these to the class the week of Thanksgiving. Writing: Students have learned about Informational text features and how that helps us to read Informational text and organize it in our writing. This week students are working on finishing their final draft of their Animal Reports. Our next writing unit will be Opinion Writing! Reading: This week we will continue in Unit 4 in Benchmark Advance. Unit 4 is Understanding Different Points of View. Students will be able to read and analyze literary texts, share ideas with their peers, build vocabulary, and write an informational text, a first person narrative, and an opinion essay. Our essential question for Unit 4 is: What do we learn when we look at the world through the eyes of others? Spelling: We have new spelling lists for this week. Extra copies of the lists can be found on the documents page of this blog. Vocabulary words for the week: Hyperbole: an exaggerated statement Ex. My backpack weighs a ton! Inference: to conclude from evidence or assumptions. An example of infer is to assume that a child took the plate of cookies since he was the only one in the room when the cookies went missing. Onomatopoeia: a word that imitates the sounds it represents Ex. Pop! Splash! Social Studies: This week we will start our third region. Mrs. Harrison's class is learning about the Southeast Mrs. Bockhoff's class class is learning about the Southeast Mrs. Kremer's class class is learning about the Southwest Mrs. Shaffer's class is learning about the Northeast Mrs. Stephenson's class is learning about the West! Our test over these regions will be on Tuesday, November 26th. Students will make their flashcards here at school and will be given a map to study. Extra maps can be found on the Documents page of the Blog. Students will also be working on their Scrapbooks here at school.
